Eligibility Criteria
Age Limit (as on 01 July 2026):
- For both General Duty (GD) and Technical branches: Candidates must be born between **01 July 2001 and 30 June 2005** (both dates inclusive).
- Age Relaxation:
- 05 years for SC/ST candidates (only if posts are reserved for them).
- 03 years for OBC (non-creamy layer) candidates (only if posts are reserved for them).
- 05 years relaxation for personnel serving in Coast Guard or equivalent personnel in Army/Navy/Air Force.
Educational Qualification:
- General Duty (GD):
- Should hold a Graduate Degree from a recognized university.
- Mathematics and Physics as subjects up to Intermediate or Class XII of 10+2+3 scheme of education or equivalent.
- Candidates who have completed graduation after diploma are also eligible, provided they possess a diploma with Physics and Mathematics in its curriculum.
- Technical (Mechanical/Electrical/Electronics):
- Should hold an Engineering degree from a recognized university in Naval Architecture, Mechanical, Marine, Automotive, Mechatronics, Industrial and Production, Metallurgy, Design, Aeronautical, Aerospace, Electrical, Electronics, Telecommunication, Instrumentation, Instrumentation and Control, Electronics and Communication, Power Engineering, or Power Electronics.
- OR Equivalent qualification in any of the above disciplines recognized by the Institutes of the Engineers (India) as exempted from section 'A' and 'B' and their associate membership examination (AMIE).
- Mathematics and Physics as subjects up to Intermediate or Class XII of 10+2+3 scheme of education or equivalent. Candidates who have completed graduation after diploma are also eligible, provided they possess a diploma with Physics and Mathematics in its curriculum.
- Candidates having Integrated Post-Graduation degree are also eligible, provided they possess a certificate from their institution/university certifying that they have passed the qualifying Degree (with percentage/marks clearly mentioned) as a part of the Integrated Post Graduation Course and are eligible for award of a Graduation Degree.
- Candidates in the final year of degree examination are eligible to apply, but must submit proof of passing the degree examination (with requisite percentage in aggregate) by **31 October 2026**.

Indian Coast Guard Selection Procedure
The selection of Assistant Commandants is a multi-stage process based on an all-india order of merit. Clearing all five stages is compulsory:
This is a computer-based online screening test conducted at designated centers across India. It consists of 100 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ), with 4 marks for each correct answer and 1 negative mark for each incorrect answer. The test duration is two hours, and the medium is English.
Subjects: English (25 Qs), Reasoning & Numerical Ability (25 Qs), General Science & Mathematical Aptitude (25 Qs), General Knowledge (25 Qs).
An All India category-wise merit list for Stage-I will be prepared based on marks scored. The Indian Coast Guard has the discretion to fix qualifying marks in any or all subjects.
Shortlisted candidates from Stage-I will appear for PSB, conducted for a day at centers like Noida, Goa, Chennai, Kolkata, Shillong/Guwahati, and Gandhinagar. Candidates will undergo a Computerized Cognitive Battery Test (CCBT) and Picture Perception & Discussion Test (PP&DT). The CCBT is objective and in English. For PP&DT, candidates can speak in English, Hindi, or a combination. This stage is qualifying in nature (recommended/not recommended).
Verification: Photo and biometric verification will be conducted. Document verification will also be done against uploaded documents. Any discrepancy may lead to cancellation of candidature.
Candidates qualifying Stage-II will be intimated for Stage-III, conducted at the Coast Guard Selection Board (CGSB) in Noida over four/five days. This stage includes Psychological Tests, Group Tasks, and an Interview (Personality Test).
Free boarding & lodging facilities are provided only for the duration of FSB.
Candidates who clear Stage-III undergo a special medical examination at Base Hospital, New Delhi, as per prescribed medical standards. Candidates declared unfit can appeal the verdict at a designated service hospital. A Review Medical Board (RMB) may be granted based on the merits of the case, and its decision will be final.
Medical Standards:
- Height: 157 cms minimum (relaxations for hilly/tribal areas).
- Weight: Proportionate to Height and Age (+/- 10% acceptable).
- Chest: Well-proportioned, minimum expansion 5 cms.
- Hearing: Normal.
- Eye Sight:
- Asst Commandant (GD): 6/6 6/9 (Uncorrected), 6/6 6/6 (Corrected).
- Asst Commandant (Tech): 6/36 6/36 (Uncorrected), 6/6 6/6 (Corrected).
- Tattoo: Not permitted on most body parts, with specific concessions for tribal communities and limited areas on forearms/hands for others.
- Persons with any kind of disability are not eligible to apply.
Candidates who clear Stage-IV and are placed in the All India Merit List (based on combined marks of Stage-I and Stage-III) as per available vacancies will be provisionally selected for training. They will report to the Indian Naval Academy (INA) Ezhimala for Naval Orientation Course.
Training Duration: GD - 44 weeks, Technical - 22 weeks, followed by ab-initio training at various establishments/units/ships.
The last date of induction at INA will tentatively be **27 December 2026**.

Visit the official Coast Guard recruitment website: https://joinindiancoastguard.cdac.in/cgcatreg/candidate/login. You need to register with a valid e-mail ID and mobile number, which should remain active until at least January 15, 2027.
During registration, you'll upload a recent passport-size color photograph (taken not before June 2024, without spectacles, with your name and date of photo clearly written). Additionally, a live image of you will be captured. The facial features in your uploaded photo will be matched against the real-time photo for submission.
You will also need to upload your scanned signature image.
After successful registration, log in and follow the instructions to fill out the online application form. Ensure all details are accurate, as changes to date of birth and gender are not allowed later.
If you meet eligibility for both General Duty and Technical branches, you can apply for both, indicating Option-I and Option-II. Your first preference will be considered initially.
If you fill multiple applications, only the latest one will be accepted, and previous applications will be rejected without fee refund.
During the initial online application (Stage-I), you must upload scanned original documents (not photocopies or self-attested copies) in .jpeg or .jpg format, with sizes between 50kb to 150kb (Photograph/Signature: 10kb-100kb):
- Date of Birth certificate (10th class mark sheet or Birth Certificate).
- Identity proof (Aadhar Card, Voter ID, Passport, PAN Card, or Driving License).
- Service Certificate/NOC (if serving ICG Personnel/civilian/Armed Force Personnel/Govt. Employee).
- Vigilance certificate (for Armed force personnel/CAPF/Govt. employees).
- Domicile Certificate (only if availing height relaxation). Note: Resident Certificate is NOT a Domicile Certificate.
Pay the examination fee of Rs. 300/- online (except for SC/ST candidates who are exempted). Payment can be made via Net Banking, Credit/Debit Card, or UPI. Your admit card will only be issued upon successful payment.
Unsuccessful payments will not be processed, and multiple payments for a single application will be refunded (excess amount only).
If you are shortlisted for Stage-II (PSB), you will be required to upload additional scanned original documents:
- 10th / Matriculation Marksheet & Certificate.
- 12th Marksheet & Certificate / Diploma year-wise / semester-wise marksheet & certificate.
- Graduation/ Post Graduation Year-wise/Semester-wise marksheets.
- Original/ Provisional certificate for Degree.
- Certificate cum undertaking (for final semester/year degree examination awaiting result).
- Category Certificate (if applicable, in GoI format, with QR/bar code for OBC-NCL).
- NOC by candidates serving in Government organizations (dated on or after the application date).
All uploaded documents must be valid until at least the closing date of online application for Stage-I. Documents in languages other than English or Hindi require both original and English translation.
You must provide five preferences for the examination city for Stage-I. Your first choice should be within 30 kms of your present/communication residence. If no city is within 30 kms, the nearest one should be your first choice.
Non-compliance with the first choice of center may lead to cancellation of candidature during document verification. The Indian Coast Guard reserves the right to allot any examination city.
